The Organization
The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an International Catholic NGO (HQ) based in Rome. Our mission is to accompany, serve, and advocate on behalf of refugees and other forcibly displaced persons, JRS has been operating in Jordan since 2008.
In Jordan-Amman, JRS runs projects and activities that favor social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, community-building, psycho-social well-being, peacebuilding, empowerment, and self-reliance. JRS strives to create spaces where everyone feels included, accepted, and respected.
General Purpose of the Position
The mentor is responsible to provide personalized guidance, support, and assistance to help clients navigate the challenges of displacement, adaptation to a new environment, and integration into the host community, by offering individual coaching and support through Personal Path Guidance. The mentor, together with partner organizations, will guide each individual in reflecting upon their skills and talents and provide suggestions on how to direct their present actions towards the development of a plan for their future. This may include assistance with language learning, job search strategies, resume writing, interview preparation, cultural adaptation, and accessing social services.
Mentors conduct an initial assessment to understand the mentee’s strengths, challenges and aspirations. Together, they set realistic and achievable goals for the mentoring relationship, focusing on areas such as language acquisition, education, and employment. The mentor is also in charge to identify and provide opportunities for skills training, workshops, and learning activities, including guidance and knowledge on complementary pathways.
Main Responsibilities of the Position
- Analyse the social, educational and livelihoods Jordanian and international context, and establish a networking map for actors, stakeholders, INGOs and local authorities;
- Establish a communication lines between actors, JRS and beneficiaries in relation to careers and livelihoods ways;
- Conduct pre-enrolment assessments, and, in collaboration with the participant, create Personal Path Guidance development plans detailing a client’s career or educational goals and a step-by-step plan for its achievement, and provide ongoing case management;
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance to all reporting requirements; document services provided and participant outcomes in relevant case management databases; monitor and track participant performance in studies, in internship placement and in job placement.;
- Attending meetings, Livelihood and Complementary Pathways coordination groups, conferences, and business events when relevant;
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files documenting participant goals and activities;
- Provide individual coaching or group instruction in resume writing, interview preparation, job search techniques, or other skills related to career advancement, in the labor market and in the educational field;
- Develop and cultivate relationships with employers who offer suitable job opportunities for clients (in Jordan or abroad);
- Assist participants and employers as necessary with post-placement issues and continuing employment needs;
- Conduct outreach for participants eligible to enrol into mentorship and career development programs;
- Support project management team in creation of further project proposals and initiative related to livelihoods, economic or education empowerment;
- Provide awareness-sessions to targeted communities to inform about educational, work and training opportunities, and complementary pathways;
- Provides guidance and support to clients to apply for scholarships in higher education institutions in Jordan or abroad (finding scholarship, assessing the eligibility criteria, supporting in all steps of the application, including motivation letter and interview preparation);
- Create and constantly update a database of online resources useful for the participants (training, job search webpages, scholarships…);
- Has a solid knowledge regarding complementary pathways, and is in charge of being constantly updated and guiding the clients (individually) and the communities at large (meetings, webinars, social media communications) regarding complementary pathways opportunities;
- Works together with project management team and advocacy officer on any JRS initiative related to complementary pathways. Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and other duties as assigned;
- Work as part of the team to provide comprehensive strength-based services to refugees through coordination of cases and effective communication between team members and departments;
- Training personnel and helping team members to develop their capabilities and skills;
- Comply with all policies, procedures and protocols of JRS;
- Other duties as assigned, related to other training provided by JRS, development of project proposal or curriculum for trainings, advocacy material with reference to livelihoods/labor market, support in, support in the planning and structuring of the Psycho-social Case Management Course (for vulnerable community members and refugees), and any other type of support that falls under her/his field of expertise and position role.
Working Environment
- A combination of standard office environment and field time in and around the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
- May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, public or international relations, business management or related field of study or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in human or commercial services field preferred.
- Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Demonstrated success in their own entrepreneurial initiatives.
- Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a key team member.
- Solutions-focused self-starter with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
- Fluent in Arabic and English.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

POSITION SALARY: 750 JOD
CONTRACT DURATION: Until the end of July 2025 with the possibility of renewal based on the performance evaluation and the availability of funds.
