Primary Role

Perform meter reading and various duties related to discontinuance of service.

Key Accountabilities

• Read water meters, using all necessary equipment and tools such as remote reading devices and pumps, and advise appropriate personnel of any maintenance required for same, or assist in those tasks.
• Locate and operate service stops using all necessary equipment and tools such as service box locators, and advise appropriate personnel of any maintenance required for same, or assist in those tasks.
• Investigate possible errors and unpostable readings, or assist in those tasks.
• Transport employees to and from assigned locations.
• Perform mail route duties.
• Legibly and accurately fill out meter reading sheets, time sheets, vehicle reports and other required paperwork.
• Follow all prescribed billing and collection procedures and schedules.
• Report hazards and irregularities on customer property.
• Know the names and uses of, and operate and maintain, all tools, equipment and materials used in the department.
• Drive company automobiles, trucks and other mobile equipment used in the department, advise supervisor of any maintenance required for same.
• Know the location of meter vaults and meters to be able to efficiently perform work assignments.
• Know the location of company facilities and be familiar with the service area to be able to efficiently perform work assignments.
• Assist other employees as directed.
• Instruct and train other employees as directed.
• Perform other duties as may from time to time be assigned.

Experience/Education

• High School graduate or equivalent

Work Environment

• Work is performed under all weather conditions and the hazardous footing conditions that develop which requires even weight distribution.
• Exposure to dust, fumes and gases, and marked changes in temperature and humidity.
