Job Summary

Provides technical expertise to manage and administer the student information system (SIS). Defines, develops and implements strategies within the guidelines of the district’s strategic framework and technology plan. Provides leadership and works with technical teams, department and business stakeholders and vendors to ensure an application’s reliability, functionality and value in the district.

What you will do

  • Implements, administers, and manages the life cycle of a student information system product. Ensures that a clear, specific, and trackable application release plan is in place and that priorities for individual work logs and deliverables are set according to operational priorities.
  • Researches, defines and develops standards, proposals and processes. Manages resources to ensure outstanding customer service, process improvements and incident resolution.
  • Coordinates with business owners, enterprise teams, and users in the development and implementation of business rules that govern access and use of SIS applications including Year End Processing/Start of School Processing/Next Year Processing.
  • Advises on application roadmap and contributes to the Director’s enterprise roadmap by keeping updated information on the SIS current and future capabilities and advise on application best practice.
  • Monitors and reports product availability, reliability, and vendor responsiveness in comparison to agreed upon service level agreements. Regularly meets with vendors to review and improve SIS product and vendor performances, processes, and enhancements.
  • Monitors vendor responsiveness to reported problems, and escalates situation to IT department management and/or vendor management as necessary.
  • Works with SIS Support, Applications Trainers, and Data Quality and Integrity staff to ensure accurate and timely communication across the district in order to keep schools and central office personnel up to date on any and all pertinent new functionality, enhancements, problems, resolutions, helpful hints, etc.
  • Builds relationships and liaises with various internal departments to drive collaboration and project success; and interacts with and responds effectively to urgent requests from multiple internal and external MNPS stakeholders.
  • Helps manage the analysis and presentation of data and progress of data-driven initiatives for senior management team and external audiences; communicates progress to key stakeholder groups; and incorporates their input.
  • Evaluates Tiers 2 support request severity and priority and delegates tasks to appropriate Tiers 2 support personnel or to Tier3 (vendor); conducts hands on tier 2 support on as needed basis and interact with application architect in identifying and troubleshooting issues; ensures that all Tier 2 and above issue are resolved with reasonable time frame and that they are properly documented.
  • Responsible for leading a team and creating a supportive and collaborative work environment. This role involves managing team performance, supporting career development, and fostering healthy relationships with direct reports to ensure their well-being and productivity.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or sufficient post-secondary training and experience in the areas of computer technology and K-12 student information management Required

Experience Qualifications

  • 3 or more years experience working with student information in a K-12 administrative setting Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to guide, direct, manage, and motivate the efforts and activities of others
  • Highly skilled in both verbal and written communication
  • Experienced in working closely with others, establishing and maintaining effective working relations with department personnel, users, and vendor representatives and staff
  • Detailed knowledge of the operation of student centric information management systems, and the policies and procedures inherent to such systems
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate MNPS needs and
  • expectations to vendor personnel for the purpose of securing required results from software performance and functionality
  • Ability to work successfully within a team environment
  • Ability to envision, plan, organize and manage complex projects, and to carry such projects to completion accurately and on schedule
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, and to quickly conform to shifted priorities when necessary
  • Ability to work independently, without supervision
  • Ability to quickly gain knowledge of vendor software and procedures; and use that knowledge to help further the progress of student information management for the district
  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time
  • Ability to work elongated daily schedule when required
  • Experience providing technical and analytical guidance to applications team members
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials

Equivalency

  • One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education. For example, if a position requires a bachelor’s degree and you have no college credits, you may substitute four years of relevant experience for the bachelor’s degree.

Starting At: $80,067.82

Salaries are determined by factors relevant to the position which may include education, experience, and other qualifications. Final compensation decisions are made at the discretion of MNPS in alignment with organizational policies and procedures. The stated salary range for certificated teaching positions is calculated based on 201 days and should be viewed as a reference. All provided salary ranges serve as a general guideline.
