The project will work with the plastic goods manufacturing and packaging sectors to apply preventive techniques to reduce plastics use, minimize plastic waste, discourage plastics littering and safely collect plastics and recycling and/or disposal. This can be achieved through the combination of Design for Environment (DfE, alternatively referred to as Eco Design or Sustainable Product Design) for plastic-based products, accessories and packaging, alternatively known as waste minimization, green productivity and/or pollution prevention) for manufacturing and packaging operations. DfE includes such practices as: functional redesign/new product or packaging concept; selection of renewable, recycled, recyclable and/or less harmful materials; reduction of material diversity; product life optimization; minimization of input requirements during use; and ease of repair, dismantling, recovery, recycling and environmentally sound disposal.

Responsibilities

  • Documentation, reporting, and stakeholder liaison
  • Support in organizing workshops, seminars, and national conferences
  • Support pilot implementation and promotion of DfE solutions
  • Design and manage the DfE work plan and training delivery
  • Develop and disseminate DfE-related materials (e.g., checklists, case studies). Conduct assessments and identify industries for DfE solutions

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) in Public Health, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Materials Science, Population Science, Pharmacy, or related field is required.
  • Alternatively, a first-level university degree or an advanced technical college diploma may be acceptable if combined with an additional 3 years of professional hands-on experience directly relevant to the expertise required by the specific assignment.

Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of work experience in plastics sector or in the relevant field is required,
  • Training and work experience on Design for Environment (Eco Design) and plastic value chain or Circular Economy in plastics value chain is required,
  • Knowledge on environment and sustainable development goals is required,
  • Good computer typing skills in Bangla and English is required;
  • Capability and eagerness to travel to different industries within Bangladesh is required;

Languages:

Fluency in written and spoken English and Bengali is required.
