Organizational Setting

The Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology (NEFW) comprises the Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section, the Waste Technology Section, the Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation Section and the Research Reactor Section. The Division seeks to support Member States in building their capacity to access technologies, to share good practices and to develop safe and effective approaches across all aspects of research reactors, nuclear fuel cycle, decommissioning, radioactive waste management and environmental remediation.

The Waste Technology Section (WTS) assists Member States with radioactive waste management. It covers a broad spectrum of activities and is organized into teams responsible for radioactive waste management (pre-disposal and disposal), and the management of disused sealed radioactive sources (DSRS). Efforts are focused mainly on the elaboration and implementation of comprehensive and integrated radioactive waste management (RWM) policies and strategies, the development of RWM infrastructure, the promotion of good practices for sustainable, safe and cost-effective RWM, enabling access to current scientific and technological developments. Given the widespread nature of RWM challenges, the Section cooperates with a wide range of units in the IAEA and international organizations.

 

Main Purpose

The consultant will develop a Dashboard on the Indicators for sustainable management of Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources (DSRS).

Functions / Key Results Expected

• In close collaboration with the Scientific Secretary, develop integrated indicators to measure the impact of DSRS activities and the status of DSRS management in Member States.
• Develop a comprehensive project plan and assist the Scientific Secretary in identifying the resources and source of information to develop the indicators dashboard.
• Develop a dashboard encompassing all identified indicators on the management of DSRS, based on the definitions, formulae and calculations shared by the Scientific Secretary.
• Develop country specific views, region specific views and overall status of DSRS indicators in the dashboard.
• Develop process and tools for data collection and metrics calculation using the existing agency systems such as SharePoint, Power BI etc.; to perform analysis of entries collected by the Scientific Secretary and other IAEA staff.
• Create technical and user documentation (manual, user guide, help files) for the DSRS indicator dashboard.
• Provide comprehensive training and technical advice to users (e.g. Staff in NEFW, NSRW, NSNS, TC) on how to use the dashboard, to ensure they can effectively use the indicators dashboard and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
• Prepare reports to the responsible Scientific Secretary and Section Head on project progress.
• Implement a feedback mechanism to continuously gather input from users and make improvements to the system.

The list of deliverables include:
• A complete and operational dashboard on the indicators for the Member States Status related to the Management of Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources (DSRS).
• User manual and guide.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree in computer science and/or IT related fields or equivalent (e.g., engineering, maths, physics, etc.)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in data management, information analysis and reporting;
  • Experience in the development and administration of SharePoint sites and/or databases and reporting tools such as Power BI;
  • Experience in writing software application, maintenance manuals and user guides;
  • Experience in working with information management systems the field of nuclear institute/organization is desirable;
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 350, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
