Basic Purpose:

Provides direct and indirect patient care in individual patient care settings, consistent with the nursing departments’ standards of care. Meets the communication needs of patient/family, departmental staff and medical staff. Demonstrates basic computer knowledge. Prepares and compiles medical records. Initiates directions from physician and nursing staff. Participates in performance improvement activities. Maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing and hospital policies, procedures and standards. Demonstrates performance consistency with the mission, philosophy and goals of the unit and organization; remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits; and treats staff, physicians and families with consideration and respect.

Education:

High School graduate or GED, surgical tech certification preferred.

Experience:

Preferred but not required

Special Skills:

Phone etiquette: fax skills; basic typing and keyboard skills

Mathematical Skills:

Must be able to apply basic mathematical skills.

Reasoning Ability:

Must have the ability to apply non-judgmental reasoning capabilities whenever necessary when dealing with patients, staff, visitors and other employees.
