position Summary

Reporting to the Optometry Services Manager, the Optometrist, provides direct optometric services of comprehensive eye exams and contact lens fittings to UCLA students.

Salary & Compensation
*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications

Skill in effectively interacting with students and staff from diverse cultural, ethnic/racial, social and sexual orientations. (Required)

Demonstrated skills in using various computer systems and applications. (Required)

Written and verbal English communication skills to clearly convey information to patients, students, clinicians and staff, using correct grammar and syntax. (Required)

Skill in organizing patient flow. (Required)

Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction. (Required)

Ability to work with the optician to provide the optician guidance in ordering frames, spectacle lenses, and contact lenses for patients. (Required)

Ability to receive constructive criticism and guidance with equanimity and engage in discussions with supervisor regarding performance in a professional manner. (Required)

Ability to perform all duties with acute awareness regarding confidentiality and privacy, and legal ramifications. (Required)

EyeMed and VSP vision plans credentialing. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Doctoral degree in optometry issued by an accredited school/college of optometry. (Required)

Current license issued by the California State Board of Optometry. (Required)

Ocular Disease residency trained (Preferred)

Special Conditions for Employment

Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.

Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.

Pre-Placement Physical: Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory physical examination.

TB Test: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory TB test.

CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the “Statement Acknowledging requirement to Report Child Abuse”.
