Background:

The OSCE Mission in Kosovo focuses on institution- and democracy-building, human rights, and rule of law. It works in areas such as human rights protection, good governance, gender equality, civic participation, training of public officials and police, and project co-ordination.

The selected intern will assist the Mission’s programmatic departments, helping with project activities, report development, and analysis. This role offers the chance to learn about the Mission’s work in institution-building, democracy assistance, and human rights, while developing skills in legal drafting and analysis.

During the 6-month assignment, the intern will support project activities related to the below four departments. The intern will also participate in meetings with stakeholders, gaining practical experience in a multi-institutional environment.

Internships are available within the following departments:

• Head of Mission Department
• Department of Human Rights and Communities
• Democratization Department
• Department of Security and Public Safety

This internship will provide an opportunity for selected candidates to gain practical experience in an international and multicultural environment while developing their professional skills and understanding of the OSCE’s mandate and activities in Kosovo.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Interns will be assigned to specific departments and projects, including:

Head of Mission Department (location: Prishtine/Pristina):

Office of Central Coordination:

• Support project management, ensuring adherence to strategic priorities and internal guidelines.
• Assist in compiling reports and monitoring Mission projects.
• Liaise with departments to prepare briefing materials and talking points.
• Support gender equality initiatives and thematic working groups.
• Provide administrative assistance, including drafting documents and taking meeting minutes.

Division of Security and Safety:

• Learn about OMiK’s work and the OSCE Security Management System.
• Understand DSS management, structures, and operations.
• Assist with administrative and operational tasks for activity implementation.
• Support record management, including updating databases and archiving.

Department of Human Rights and Communities (location: Prishtine/Pristina, Regional Center Prizren):

• Conduct research on rule of law and human rights developments, including data collection and analysis.
• Assist in organizing events, monitoring legislative implementation, and supporting project activities.
• Draft and edit reports, briefing papers, legal analyses, and prepare inputs for promotion of departmental activities on Mission social media channels.
• Participate in stakeholder meetings, legislative reviews, interpretation, and liaison efforts.
• Provide administrative and logistical support, including document digitization, translations, correspondence, scheduling, and record maintenance.
• Create draft content, document events, and serve as a media focal point to support Mission communication efforts.

Democratization Department (location: Prishtine/Pristina):

• Support programme implementation, including outreach, co-ordination, and reporting.
• Conduct research on governance topics and assist in drafting briefs.
• Provide logistical support for project tracking and stakeholder engagement.
• Contribute to public awareness and visibility initiatives.
• Prepare daily media briefs by summarizing news and key developments.
• Support the Media and/or Good Governance Section’s activities.

Department of Security and Public Safety (location: Prishtine/Pristina):

• Assist in law enforcement, crossing points management, and community safety initiatives.
• Conduct research on security policies and best practices.
• Support training sessions and workshops for law enforcement agencies.
• Draft reports and assist in data collection on security issues.

Necessary Qualifications:

• Applicants must be no older than 30 years on the application deadline date and have completed at least two years of full-time university education at an accredited institution or have obtained a first or postgraduate degree in a relevant field within the last two years.
• Academic background in international relations, political science, law, human rights, security studies, or other relevant fields.
• Professional fluency in English with excellent writing and communication skills.
• Strong research and analytical abilities.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and demonstrate initiative.
• Good organizational and administrative skills.
• Basic understanding of gender mainstreaming principles.
• Applicants must be nationals of an OSCE participating State.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Previous work experience or internships in a relevant field.
• Experience working in a multilateral/multicultural environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet applications.
• Experience working with databases.
• Knowledge of another OSCE working language is an asset.

Remuneration and Benefits:

• In lieu of remuneration the OSCE Mission in Kosovo will contribute towards the cost of living of International Interns who are non-residents at the duty station (place of assignment), such compensation is equivalent to 10% of the applicable BLA rate.
• Social benefits will include participation in the Cigna health insurance scheme.
• The internship does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.
