The Pain Service at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is offering the opportunity for the correct candidate to be appointed to the substantive role of Consultant in Chronic Pain and Anaesthesia , including acute pain.
Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of medical services to approximately 420,000 people living across southwest London and northeast Surrey. In addition, we provide more specialist services, in particular renal and neonatal intensive care to a wider area covering parts of Sussex and Hampshire.

Main duties of the job
The candidate will be expected to work across both sites depending on the needs of the service. The job plan will include 10 Programmed Activities with a 1 in 12 on call commitment, which will work out as 1:12 weekends and 1:3 fixed weekday, delivered at St Helier Hospital. The job plan will include 3.5 PAs in Chronic pain and 0.625 PA in acute pain. The job plan includes 1.5 SPA for core mandatory training/governance in pain and anaesthetic, with an additional 0.5 SPA for mentoring and guidance under a senior supervisor for 12 months. The successful candidate must be dedicated to the pursuit of excellence, always placing the patient first.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining CCT/CE SR or equivalent Completion of 12 months
- Completion of 12 months of Pain SIA or equivalent
- EPALS / APLS training
Desirable criteria
- FFPMRCA – Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine Royal College of Anaesthetists
- Additional paeds/obs experience beyond Stage 3 experience
- Special interest in regional anaesthesia
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad range of experience of anaesthesia for elective, emergency surgery for patients of all ages
- Competent in doing pain injections/blocks
Desirable criteria
- Advanced airway management skills
Management and Administrative
Essential criteria
- Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
- Ability to teach clinical skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience of supervising junior doctors
- nstructor status in ALS/ APLS / EPLS or other similar courses
Research Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to contribute to change management
- Ability to critically review research
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate involvement in Audit
