Background

Founded in 2007, Global Emergency Group, Inc. (GEG) is a benefit corporation that supports humanitarian agencies responding to crises. Since the company’s inception we have worked in over 52+ countries providing a broad range of humanitarian support services to a wide array of organizations, including the United Nations, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, donor governments, companies, major international and national NGO’s and local communities.

In addition, as a partner within Team Credence, GEG provides field program support to USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance.

The GEG headquarters is near Winchester, Virginia with a global team of over 62 persons based all over the world.

GEG is seeking to expand its reach and enhance its proposal development process to secure funding and partnerships and is seeking a part-time Business Development Consultant to support GEG in identifying new opportunities and developing proposals.

Scope of Work

Position Description

The primary objective of this consultancy is to identify and secure new business opportunities that align with GEG’s mission and expertise, as well as to improve the quality and effectiveness of proposal submissions.

Responsibilities

The Business Development Consultant will:

  • Market Research
    • Identify potential funding sources, partners, and opportunities within the humanitarian sector.
    • Analyze market trends and competitor activities.
  • Opportunity Identification
    • Monitor relevant Requests for Proposals (RFP’s) and funding announcements.
    • Develop a pipeline of potential projects, initiatives, and organize and facilitate discussions within GEG to decide which ones to progress (go/no-go).
    • Develop a methodology for efficient review of identified opportunities by wider Business Development team.
  • Proposal Development
    • Update existing proposal templates and development tools to facilitate the efficient submission of professional, high-quality proposals.
    • Assist in the development and coordination of proposals, including gathering necessary information from stakeholders.
    • Ensure proposals align with donor requirements and GEG’s strategic objectives.
    • Develop and update overall BD information (an ensure it’s linked to language elsewhere such as website, capacity statements etc.)
  • Relationship Building
    • Engage with potential partners, stakeholders, and clients to build relationships and gather intelligence on emerging opportunities.
    • Represent GEG at networking events and meetings as needed.
  • Reporting
    • Provide regular updates on progress and findings, including a monthly report detailing identified opportunities and proposal status
    • Track success rate on submitted proposals, identifying lessons learned and opportunities to improve likelihood of successful proposal submission.

Deliverables

  • Monthly reports on market research and opportunity identification, including (when relevant) lessons learned from previous proposals.
  • Completed proposals, as required, tailored to specific funding opportunities.
  • Updated proposal templates and proposal development tools.
  • A list of potential partners and key contacts in the humanitarian sector.

Position Qualifications

  • University degree in Project Management or comparable professional qualification.
  • Experience working in a humanitarian-related field with over three (3) years experience in proposal writing, project management or administration.
  • Familiarity with requirements of the key donors including UN Agencies (UNICEF, OCHA, UNHCR, etc.), National Donors (OFDA, DFID, DFATD) and other funding bodies (World Bank, ADB the EU).
  • Experience of working remotely in a multi-sector team.
  • Excellent English language written skills

Timeline

  • This Business Development Consultancy will commence as soon as possible and continue for six months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.

Compensation

  • The Business Development Consultant will be compensated at $80 per hour, with an estimated commitment of between eight (8) and twenty-four (24) hours per week.

Terms and Conditions

  • The Business Development Consultant will work remotely but may be required to attend in-person meetings or events as necessary.
  • Confidentiality regarding GEG’s operations and sensitive information must be maintained at all times.
