WHY JOIN WFP?
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.
In Mozambique, WFP has significantly expanded its operations over the last few years. The scale-up of its operations was due to two major tropical cyclones and a long drought that occurred in 2019, the escalation of violence and insecurity in the north of the country, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and recurrent natural disasters including cyclones.
