Job Summary:

MedStar Health is looking for a Perioperative Services PCT to join our team.

Perioperative Services plays a vital role in assisting the surgical team, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining a clean and organized environment. Provides direct patient care in Preop, Operating Room and PACU, supporting surgical procedures, and collaborating with the surgical team to ensure smooth operations. Functions as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or medical staff/providers. Assists nursing and medical staff with procedures and/or tests, and patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Performs specific care activities such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, intravenous (IV) catheter insertion, electrocardiography (EKG), and documentation in the health record.

Primary Duties:

• Assists with patient care in the OR, including safe transfers, positioning, pre-operative prep, and applying SCD sleeves under the direction of clinical staff.
• Supports surgical teams by preparing and maintaining the operating room, setting up case carts, handling sterile items, and ensuring equipment availability.
• Transports patients, medications, blood products, specimens, and equipment as needed; assists with patient discharges, transfers, and errands.
• Performs basic clinical procedures such as blood glucose monitoring, phlebotomy, IV insertion, catheter removal, and collecting lab specimens as directed.
• Maintains a clean, safe patient environment; monitors vital signs, responds to call lights, and assists patients with ADLs including feeding and bathing.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED (Required)
• Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program (Required) or
• Completion of a national Registered Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic program/course with at least six months or more experience as an EMT, CCT, or EMTP (Required) or
• Nursing Student (RN Program) with completion of at least one year of clinical rotation or a graduate of an approved nursing program (LPN or RN) (Required)
• Prior work experience not required
• General health care experience in an acute care, long-term care or other settings (Preferred)
• Basic math knowledge
• Verbal and written communication skills
• Basic computer skills (preferred)

Licenses/ Certifications:

• CNA – Certified Nursing Assistant in the District of Columbia (Required)
• CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days (Required)
• Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
• CPT – Phlebotomy Technician Certification (Preferred)

This position has a hiring range of $20.039 – $30.385
