Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital in Rhinelander, WI is seeking a PATIENT SAFETY COMPANION to join our CRITICAL CARE UNIT team!

Under direct supervision of a registered nurse the Patient Safety Companion (PSC) is responsible for providing in-person, constant, alert observation and monitoring of patients demonstrating behaviors that pose a threat to self or others while always maintaining a direct line of sight of the patient. In collaboration with the patient care team, the PSC ensures the patient environment is free of obstacles and minimizes the risk of falls and accidental or intentional self-harm. The PSC may also assist with basic activities of daily living.

HOURS: Occasional hours as needed on varied shifts

Experience/Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED equivalent beneficial
• Knowledge of patient care and customer service standards and practices normally acquired through a demonstrated ability to read, write, and remember/follow verbal or written instructions.
• Experience in a hospital or nursing home setting preferred; however, training provided upon hire.
• Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire – All clinical personnel in identified job codes are required to maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) training through independent study, manikin and knowledge testing. An acceptable CPR training program is the Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider course from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Professional Rescuer Program with AED.
• Willing to work in adverse conditions and the ability to convey a positive image.
• Ability to read and write as well as to remember and follow verbal or written directions.
• Excellent listening and communication skills.
• Strong observation ability.
• Ability to respond calmly and swiftly under pressure.
• Ability to follow direction and accept feedback.
