Responsibilities
- Mentor payroll staff and ensure the timely and accurate processing and distribution of bi-weekly and weekly payroll for 20,000+ exempt and non-exempt employees.
- Process and audit various payroll reports, prior to processing payroll.
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements; enforce adherence to requirements.
- Properly interpret company policies affecting payroll procedures.
- Interface with internal and external individuals, departments, and agencies to answer questions, resolve issues, provide required reports, obtain, and share information related to payroll or payroll procedures.
- Manager payroll tax reporting, including quarterly and year-end tax filings.
- Calculation and entry of fringe benefits and relocations.
- Reconciliation of payroll disbursement accounts and monitor ADP activity.
- Reconcile funding accounts for pay card provider.
- On-going research of minimum wage requirements and system updates related to increases.
- On-going research of sick and other leave requirements.
- Preparation of annual unclaimed property reports and due diligence notification requirements.
- Over-see garnishment processing, resolve any errors and maintain vendor relationship with 3rd party processor.
- Provide research and analysis of payroll data as necessary.
- Improve payroll processes and systems for efficiency and accuracy.
- Address payroll related inquiries from employees and management.
- Assist with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for payroll processes
- Assist the Director of Payroll with other reports and projects as assigned
Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant payroll experience.
- A minimum of 2 years in a managerial role.
- Experience with Workday Payroll is preferred.
- Excellent understanding of payroll processes, systems, and practices.
- Excellent knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws is essential in this position.
- Demonstrated ability to be an effective mentor to payroll staff and the ability to create a work environment that is motivating and productive.
- Multi-unit experience required.
- Multi-state payroll experience required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels.
- Maturity with highly confidential and sensitive matters.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills, adhering to strict deadlines.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and balance multiple projects and processes simultaneously.
- Independent, proactive, and well organized.
- Proficient in computer usage and related software applications, specifically Microsoft Office.
- Experience with ADP Smart Compliance a plus
