We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Pensions Manager to lead our dedicated Pensions Team within the Employee Support section. This is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of pension services across the Council, schools, and commercial clients, covering LGPS, NHS, and Teachers’ Pension Schemes.As Pensions Manager, you will oversee a team of Pensions Officers and Assistants, ensuring compliance with legislation, delivering accurate calculations, and driving continuous improvement in service delivery. You will also play a key role in shaping pension policy, managing projects, and supporting strategic decision-making.Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Pensions Team, ensuring high standards and clear service objectives.
• Interpret and implement pension legislation and policy updates.
• Ensure compliance with Auto Enrolment and all relevant pension schemes.
• Liaise with external bodies including LGPS, NHS Pensions, and Teachers’ Pensions.
• Manage pension calculations, capital cost budgets, and policy development.
• Provide training and guidance to staff and stakeholders.
• Deputise for the Service Manager Employee Support when required.

About YouWe’re looking for someone with:

• Proven experience managing a pensions function, ideally within a local authority.
• Strong knowledge of pension scheme regulations and employment law.
• Experience working with HR/Payroll systems such as Midland iTrent.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
• A proactive, detail-oriented approach with the ability to manage sensitive cases with empathy.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience with Local Government terms and conditions (Blue Book, Green Book, Teachers’ Pay).
• Strong understanding of annual and monthly pension returns processes.
