Description
The Writer/Editor will create PIH-focused content for print and digital formats. Collaborating with the Content Manager, they will help implement a content plan that drives engagement, educates audiences, and supports fundraising efforts.
- Work with PIH staff at country sites and in the Boston office to identify and develop story ideas and turn them into compelling pieces.
- Write interesting and jargon-free articles, profiles, and news stories that inform and engage PIH constituencies, including supporters, the general public, and health care professionals.
- In conjunction with the Marketing & Communications department’s production calendars, set, adhere to, and enforce multiple deadlines.
- Schedule and post copy to www.pih.org’s blog, including photos and graphics.
- Coordinate across PIH teams to ensure content includes solid data, accurate messaging, and equitable representation of voices.
- Nurture a collaborative and creative environment grounded in innovation, exploration, and professional growth.
- Gather, edit, and package information from PIH staff into content for our website, social media platforms, and other Marketing & Communications channels that is appropriate and appealing to a general audience.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or at least three years of experience as a journalist or professional writer required; five to seven years preferred.
- Proven ability to write and edit material across multiple platforms.
- Proficiency in French, Spanish, and/or Creole a bonus.
- Experience building strong relationships with sources.
- Experience using social media platforms, particularly Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
- Working knowledge of website content management systems.
- Familiarity with Associated Press style.
- Understanding of and ability to clearly communicate topics related to global health and social justice a bonus.
- Ability to travel domestically and overseas as needed.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Exemplary communications skills; ability to work effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments and countries.

The expected starting salary range for new hires in this position is between $65,000 and $70,000/year and may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market for the position, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The position belongs to a class of roles that have a salary range between $60,000 and $75,000/year.
Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, eligible employees may enroll in a 401(k) plan with employer match, as well as participate in organization-sponsored medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and basic life insurance plans for the employee and the employee’s eligible dependents. Full time employees will receive 15 days of vacation, 12 sick days, 3 personal days, and 3 volunteer days in addition to paid time off during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, the week of July 4th, and 11 additional holidays annually.
