Description

The Shop Superintendent – Pipe is a key leader in our fabrication operations, responsible for ensuring that all prefabricated piping systems are produced to the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and safety. From overseeing CAD/FAB workflows to supervising shop employees, this role ensures every product leaving the shop is ready for seamless installation in the field. Your leadership directly supports project schedules, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

In this role, you’ll coordinate closely with Project Managers, field operations, and schedulers to align production with project needs, while driving continuous improvement across processes and people. You’ll provide mentorship and training to shop personnel, manage safety initiatives, and ensure that all materials are staged, bundled, and shipped complete and on time.

position Summary

Responsible for ensuring the CAD/FAB process and RK procedure results in product that is installed in the customer’s buildings by the Field Operations personnel that meets or exceeds the customer’s requirements. Responsible to oversee the Shop Employees to improve their leadership and organizational skills, as well as, work with Project Managers, field personnel, Schedulers and Work Order Processors to ensuring a high quality project is produced and delivered on time.

Role Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Shop Employees to ensure that the CAD/FAB process results in product that meets or exceeds the customer’s requirements.
  • Ensure that the controlled conditions under which the CAD/FAB activities are conducted and maintained at all times.
  • Ensure the continuous improvement of the outputs of the CAD/FAB process.
  • Ensure the continuous improvement of the company’s employees through performance review and development planning.
  • Drawing Reviews.
  • Schedule Reviews.
  • Direct Employees.
  • Oversee bundling and staging of materials.
  • Hold weekly safety meetings.
  • Hold daily tool box talks.
  • Coordinate delivery dates with trucking.
  • Assisting Shop Operations Manager with hiring, evaluations and terminations of shop personnel.
  • Work closely with shop personnel to help improve their skills.
  • Work with RKMI’s safety department to insure a safe shop environment.
  • Responsible for accurate allocation of shop labor costs (time cards).
  • Interface and coordinate with company’s CAD department and detailing subcontractors.
  • Identify changes in scope as a result of revisions to shop drawings.
  • Insure a quality product is consistently produced and shipped complete.
  • Insure consistent productivity is maintained.
  • Ensure the shop and yard is always safe, clean and organized.
  • Insure all shop staff is properly trained on equipment in an effort to limit equipment repair costs.

Qualifications

  • Indirect supervision.
  • Requires the use of advanced techniques and knowledge within his/her function.
  • Applies diversified knowledge of applicable principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments.
  • Makes decisions independently regarding complexities and methods.
  • Supervision and guidance related largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts and policy matters.
  • Liaison to groups within and outside of his/her organization with responsibility to act independently regarding matters pertaining to his/her function.
  • College/University graduate with 7 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of skills and experience generally expected for specified technical roles.
