The PLC Machine Operator – is responsible for operating PLCcontrolled equipment used in the processing of steel and aluminum products. This includes grinding and polishing steel/aluminum sheets, plates, and billets, as well as Coil Processing including slitting, coil polish, coil buff, and cuttoLength (CTL) operations.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Operate PLCcontrolled machinery using HMIs, push buttons, and established procedures.
• Perform grinding and polishing of steel and aluminum sheets, plates, and billets, and Coil Processing including slitting, coil polish, coil buff, and cut to length.
• Inspect materials using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and ultrasonic measuring devices, etc.
• Handle materials using overhead cranes, gantry cranes, jib cranes, forklifts, sheet lifters, vacuum lifters, and plate handlers (experience a plus).
• Assist with skid building and packaging of finished materials.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow all SMP/Ryerson safety requirements.
• Complete production and quality documentation accurately.

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• Minimum 2 years of similar job experience preferred
• Regular attendance
• Basic math skills
• Basic computer skills and/or comfort using a computer
• Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding and new hire training
