We’re looking for passionate individuals to join our team as Police Emergency Call Takers, where you’ll play a crucial role in saving lives and protecting property across British Columbia.About the Role: As a Police Emergency Call Taker, you’ll be the vital link between the public and our first responders. Working in our state-of-the-art emergency communication centres, you’ll assist individuals in crisis, ensuring they get the immediate help they need. You will handle emergency calls, provide support for our Police partner agencies, create detailed reports, and relay critical information to dispatchers and other services.Our centres operate around the clock, every day of the year, managing over 2 million calls annually. You’ll be part of a dynamic team that thrives in high-pressure situations and is committed to ensuring community safety.What We’re Looking For:

  • Start date: October 24, 2024
  • Job rate: PG 20 | $36.07 to $42.48 per hour; $69,609 to $81,916 per annum (2024 rates)
  • Hours of work: 4 on; 4 off (12-hour shifts)
  • Employee Group: CUPE, Local 8911
  • Department: Operations

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Education | High School Diploma or a combination of education, training and life experience is required.
  • Effective communication skills | Fluent in english both orally and in writing.
  • Computer skills | Must be able to type a minimum of 44 WPM during a 5-minute typing test.
  • Geography | Knowledge of southwest British Columbia with an emphasis on Metro Vancouver area including knowledge of street names, landmarks, tunnels, bridges, and bodies of water.
  • Work authorization | A Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident residing in Canada for a minimum 3 of the last 5 years.
  • Availability | Able to work full-time during 6 month training period with minimal or no vacation time.
  • Security Clearance | Applicants must be successful in a Vancouver Police Department (VPD) interview that will investigate your employment, education, associates, finances, drug and alcohol use, and criminal activity over the past 10 years.
  • Covid-19 Vaccine Policy | E-Comm 911 has a vaccination policy that is currently suspended. However, should the policy be reinstated, it will be a requirement for all current and future employees.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Additional education | Courses in public safety, emergency communications, or criminology.
  • Volunteer or work experience | Experience working in a Public Safety or Emergency Services environment.
  • Superb geography knowledge | Knowledge of British Columbia Geography at a high level. This can include knowledge of street names, landmarks, tunnels, bridges, and bodies of water.
  • Call-centre experience | Experience working in a high-pressure or high-volume call-centre.
