Due to multiple challenges related to the commercialization of second-generation biofuels, researchers seek alternative ways to utilize biomass for the decarbonization of energy systems. We are recruiting a post-doctoral research associate to engage in international interdisciplinary collaborative research on the Decarbonization of Global Aviation and Marine through Biochar Integration. The project is in close collaboration with the Energy Science & Engineering Department at Stanford University and many other companies and universities and includes feedstock inventory & characterization, process simulation & optimization, life-cycle assessment (LCA), Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA), and policy analysis. Possibly, a few lab-scale biomass pyrolysis reactor experimental works will also be explored. The outcomes of this work are anticipated to be published in high-impact research journals (e.g., Nature, Science). The post-doctoral fellow will be supervised by Prof. Mohammad Masnadi (Chemical Engineering, University of Pittsburgh). We especially encourage candidates with demonstrated capabilities or experience in Chemical Engineering and Process Simulation & Design, cellulosic biomass and bioresources and bio-wastes, LCA and TEA, and data analytics.

PhD in Chemical Engineering is preferred.
