Postbaccalaureate Fellow in Economics: Labor and Public Economics

The Department of Economics at Dartmouth College invites applications for a Postbaccalaureate Fellow (PBF), at the rank of postgraduate research associate, in the area of applied microeconomics. This position has a particular emphasis on labor economics, public finance, and the economics of immigration. The faculty supervisors for this position are Professors Elizabeth Cascio and Ethan Lewis.

Responsibilities include:

• Cleaning, managing, and carrying out preliminary analysis of data using Stata
• Documenting data construction and assisting in the production of replication archives for journals and data repositories
• Contributing to drafting preliminary literature reviews for new grant proposals, annual reports on existing grants, and other project documents
• Reading and commenting on paper drafts
• Coordinating and managing undergraduates working as part-time research assistants
• Supporting undergraduate research projects in the professors’ culminating seminar courses in labor economics and public finance during Winter 2027

Postbaccalaureate Fellows (PBFs) work with faculty supporting and conducting scholarly research and teaching in anticipation of advancing their skills and experience to prepare for the next stage of their careers. PBFs are expected to contribute to all stages of research – including research design, literature searches, conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data and writing reports and papers. PBFs may also have the opportunity to contribute in the classroom or in laboratory sections of courses, helping undergraduate students with labs, review sessions, paper editing and grading certain assignments.

This position is full-time, non-remote, in-residence at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, with start date as early as July 2026. Appointments are typically for a 1-year period. The annual salary is $60,000.

Fellows who are working in residence in Hanover, NH are eligible for Graduate Special Student status and the ability to take certain Dartmouth courses with the tuition paid by Dartmouth as a working condition fringe benefit. The benefit covers a maximum of 1 course per academic year the fellow is employed and in residence at Dartmouth.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in economics, public policy, or any other field with significant required quantitative coursework by the start of the appointment
• Previous programming experience in Stata, as gained through past coursework, past independent research, past work experience, or past research experience
• Previous experience conducting empirical research, either as a research assistant or in an independent project
• Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm in applying research experience to research in economics or public policy
• Demonstrated ability to work well independently

• A long-term interest in pursuing research related to economics and public policy
• An interest in pursuing a PhD in Economics or a related discipline
