The successful candidate will play a key role in leading implementation science research projects aimed at improving smoking cessation services in both urban and rural areas of British Columbia. Embedded within Vancouver Coastal Health and experts in implementation science, this role involves collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of researchers, health professionals, community members, and decision makers to co-develop, implement and evaluate effective smoking cessation plans within acute and community health care settings. The candidate will also have opportunities to engage and contribute to other related research projects on advancing COPD and asthma prevention and care.About the initiativefocuses on enhancing patient care and public health through individual and community engagement, bridging gaps between academic research and practical health care. Our goal is to accelerate the creation and application of knowledge to improve prevention and care for individuals at risk of or living with asthma and COPD. Based at the Centre for Lung Health (CLH) at Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI), and supported by partnerships with Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), University of British Columbia (UBC), Simon Fraser University (SFU), and other key partners, we leverage globally respected clinical research and care programs to drive impactful health outcomes.The successful candidate will also be affiliated with the (CCDPM) at the UBC Okanagan Campus. The CCDPM is a provincial leader in research excellence, knowledge translation, and exchange in chronic disease prevention. The CCDPM has an active Trainee Engagement Committee, offering numerous leadership and professional development opportunities, as well as access to funding.Key responsibilitiesLead the implementation science project on smoking cessation services in urban and rural areas in BC.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including health authority and government partners responsible for translating research findings into clinical practice and policy.Contribute to grant applications and research publications related to implementation science and airway healthDisseminate research findings to academic and non-academic audiences.Mentor and co-supervise undergraduate and graduate students.QualificationsPh.D. in a relevant field (e.g., health sciences, public health, implementation science, health promotion)Excellent communication skills, both written and verbalExpertise and/or passion in implementation science, health behavior change, smoking cessation services, research partnerships, and/or public health.Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.Strong scientific writing skills, including manuscript, grant and report writing.Experience in building partnerships with health system managers, community leaders, and other organizations is preferred.Experience in mentoring and supervising junior researchers is preferred.The successful candidate is expected to apply for postdoctoral research fellowships (e.g., Michael Smith Health Research BC, CIHR, Mitacs) in partnership with Legacy for Airway Health and other partners.Reporting RelationshipsThe postdoctoral research fellow reports to Dr. Femke Hoekstra, Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Medicine and Dr. Chris Carlsten, Director, Legacy for Airway Health.Application requirementsCover letter detailing your research experiences and qualificationsAcademic CVReference contact information
