Ballard Spahr LLP has an entry-level opportunity for a Practice Assistant in the San Francisco office. The Litigation Practice Assistant is responsible for providing complex administrative support to Attorneys and staff on a legal team, including, but not limited to, Lawyers, Paralegals, and Legal Administrative Assistants (LAA), through every stage of the litigation life cycle, including factual and legal research, summarizing important documents, proofing motions, and playing an active role in business development. This position offers a hybrid work schedule of 3 days a week in the office.

Your Role:
As a Practice Assistant within our Litigation team, you will:

Perform factual and legal research to assist with ongoing matters – everything from researching case law to reviewing and summarizing documents produced in discovery to investigating plaintiffs and their claims.

Monitor developing areas of law and prepare periodic updates for attorneys.

Play an active role in business development, including preparing for pitches and assisting with proposals.

Redact and finalize documents (electronic and paper) for production in discovery.

Maintain case files, databases, and documents.

Assist with preparation for depositions, hearings, and trials.

Develop familiarity with California and federal court systems.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required experience:
A 4-year college degree and the ability to prioritize, multitask, handle, and maintain confidential matters is required. Intermediate level with Microsoft Office, excellent customer service, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential to be successful in this position.
The salary range for this position is from $70,000 – $85,000, which reflects the Firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will depend on several factors, such as the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
