We are excited to announce the opening of a brand new SEMH school in Skipton from September, dedicated to providing high-quality education and support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact in the lives of young people and contribute to their personal and academic development.As a SEMH Teacher, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional teaching and learning experiences tailored to the individual needs of our students. You will be responsible for planning and implementing engaging lessons that promote academic progress, social-emotional development, and positive behavior management. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, including teaching assistants, therapists, and support staff, you will create a nurturing and supportive classroom environment where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to succeed.Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons in accordance with the school’s curriculum and individual student education plans (IEPs).
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and learning styles of students with SEMH needs.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, building trust, rapport, and a sense of belonging within the classroom community.
  • Implement effective behavior management strategies, promoting positive behavior and addressing challenging behaviors with empathy and consistency.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external professionals to assess student progress, develop personalized interventions, and monitor outcomes.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their academic and social-emotional growth.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practices and stay abreast of best practices in SEMH education.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, preferably in a special education or alternative provision setting.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH and its impact on learning and behavior.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families, demonstrating empathy, patience, and resilience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and a passion for making a difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain) and eligibility to work in the UK.
