ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Under the supervision of the Chief of Party – Jordan, the Program Officer – Sawt will provide support to the Sawt Activity team and Jordan office on a variety of tasks, including reporting, administrative actions, staffing, procurement, and donor relations. The Program Officer will provide critical back-stopping support to the country office, support in project activities/deliverables as needed by department heads and will serve as a link between Sawt Team Leads and HQ.

LOGISTICS

Internews has US offices in Arcata, CA and Washington, DC which support a hybrid workforce with staff working remotely, fully in-office, or partially remote. This is a remote-based role, and candidates based anywhere in the United States will be considered. Candidates based in the Washington, DC area who would prefer a partial remote or fully in-office position should feel free to express this preference during the hiring process.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

Administrative Support

  • Coordinate between the Sawt team and Internews’ Headquarters staff to ensure swift, accurate, and reliable turnaround of procurement, subgrants, finance, HR, and related requests.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Sawt team and other Internews technical teams, as required.
  • Develop and maintain tracking systems to ensure progress on all administrative actions.
  • Manage logistics for any international project-related travel, meetings, or events for Internews staff and consultants, including procurement of visas as needed, and ensure that all project-related travel is properly coded and approved.
  • Provide support to Sawt team in interviewing, and onboarding new project staff and/or consultants, as needed.

Representational Support

  • Maintain high level contacts with donors and program partners, notably in Washington, D.C.
  • Participate in advocacy and communication activities to maintain a high profile for the Sawt project, at both the national level (within Jordan) and internationally.
  • Attend meetings, roundtables, and other events on behalf of the Sawt Activity, when needed.
  • As requested, represent the project to funders and on the Hill, along with members of Internews’ senior leadership team.
  • Maintain an awareness of news and events in Jordan and develop a library of important documents, studies, and media news on Jordan.
  • Offer creative solutions to address problems, raise the profile of the project, and propose new activities.

Project Implementation Support

  • Provide support to the Chief of Party on a variety of program support tasks. Typical tasks may include but are not limited to preparing and/or editing reports and presentations.
  • In direct collaboration with the Sawt Activity Communications Team, contribute to the writing, editing, design, and/or layout of success stories and other materials.
  • Working closely with the Sawt Activity MERL and Communications team in Jordan, assist in drafting, editing, and formatting weekly, quarterly, and annual project reports, as well as annual work plans and newsletters.
  • Review and edit other programmatic documents, as requested.
  • Support the Sawt team with responding to project queries (both internal and external), as well as the preparation of briefing packets, if/as requested.

Values and Flexibility

  • Work hours are moderately flexible; however, the successful candidate should have some flexibility to align working hours with those of colleagues in Jordan as needed to participate in meetings and other events.
  • Travel to Jordan as needed, to provide programmatic support, backstopping support, project implementation support, or fulfill other duties. Travel is not expected to exceed 15% Level of Effort for this position.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • Relevant degree in media, international development, international relations, Middle Eastern studies, or another comparable field OR equivalent lived/professional experience.
  • At least 5 years’ relevant professional experience, including significant experience in international development, project administration, or media development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the media and civil society context in Jordan.
  • Experience writing reports, proposals, and other funder documents.
  • Excellent written and spoken English required.
  • Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills, with a systematic approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, both virtually and in-person, including with colleagues in different time zones.
  • Must be self-reliant, resourceful, a good problem-solver, and flexible.
  • Strong experience with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred

Note: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but who are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.

  • Experience in grants management a significant asset.
  • Professional proficiency in Arabic a distinct advantage.
  • Prior experience living and/or working in Jordan preferred.
  • Experience with USAID-funded projects.

The annual salary range for this position is US $70,100 – US $87,600.
