Purpose of the Position

Under the supervision of the WASH Officer, the Programme Associate WASH supports the development, preparation, coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH programme, specifically focusing on the WASH in Institutions and Vulnerable Communities, undertaking relevant advocacy activities to advance WASH agenda and ensuring effective and timely delivery.

The Programme Associate WASH will work in close collaboration with a range of staff in the CO, external partners and agency counterparts in support of programme design and delivery. S/He provides regular feedback on the status of projects through monitoring milestones, identifying gaps in the provision of services and advising on improvements to keep activities on track in Bogotá and territories where UNICEF is present.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

• Completion of secondary education is required, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses (in Social Sciences, Economic Sciences, Engineering, Public Health, Environment, or other relevant technical field to the description of the assignment.
• A minimum of 6 years of progressive work experience in Water, Sanitation and Hygene related matters.
• For this position, a bachelor’s degree from a recognized academic institution in a relevant field may replace three years of related work experience. A master’s degree may replace additional two years.
• Experience in the implementation of tools for participation and development of community projects in WASH.
• Experience in the implementation and monitoring of WASH actions, including assessments, evidence generation and programme delivery.
• Experience in coordination of sectoral groups and political dialogue with authorities of WASH.
• Previous experience effectively working with government and partner organizations in Colombia is an asset.
• Prior experience in programme support functions is an asset.
• Humanitarian: Background/familiarity with Emergency preparedness and response, and/or working with vulnerable communities is an asset.
• Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
• Ability to be flexible and hard-working, both independently and in a team environment, in a high pressure on-call environment with changing priorities.
• Knowledge of computer systems and applications e.g. MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with the ability to analyse data to inform decision making.
• Fluency in Spanish and a good level of English is required.
