The Programme Policy’s Officer’s responsibilities will include:
Coordinating the emergency response in direct support to the Head of Programme and the Deputy Country Director.
Overseeing the emergency team within the programme unit.
Leading preparation of emergency assessment capacities, contingency planning, scenario building and Concept of Operations to ensure adequate operation readiness and where feasible, a transition plan for more sustainable emergency responses.
Monitor emerging humanitarian and food security trends and potential socio-economic and political instability to identify risks and strategies for preparedness and risk reduction before crisis occurs.
Ensuring that WFP’s emergency response is coordinated with the affected communities, authorities, and partners, in collaboration with the WFP sub-offices and WFP’s IDP response coordinator.
Providing timely situational updates to senior management and diverse range of stakeholders to ensure effective decision-making as well as required external support by the CO/RB/HQ.
Proactively providing advice and support to mobilize WFP resources and capabilities for an effective and sustainable emergency response.
Leveraging available funding mechanisms, partnership networks and communication and advocacy platforms to raise visibility of the emergency operation and requirements.
Qualifications
Education:
Advanced University degree preferably in social sciences, public administration, international law, public health, international relations/development/affairs, logistics, supply chain management, business administration or other related fields of study, or First University degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or, advanced training/courses.
Experience:
At least 7 years’ experience working in medium to large-scale emergency operations.
Experience in developing and implementing CBT activities in highly desired.
Has experience working in collaboration with a diverse array of humanitarian actors, including governments, NGOs, UN Agencies, civil society, etc.
Languages:
Fluency (level C) in English language.
Intermediate knowledge (level B) of French.
