Job Description

Terracon is seeking a full-time Project Archaeologist or Archaeological Principal Investigator to join us in our Minneapolis or St. Paul office. This position offers the opportunity to perform and direct field studies, desktop reviews, technical studies, and project permitting to a variety of projects. The successful candidate will be seeking opportunity for growth working on a variety of development projects across the state and region. As a Project Archaeologist/Principal Investigator with Terracon, you will be responsible for:

• Generating proposals with scope of work and cost estimates.
• Preparing Cultural Resources Desktop Reviews.
• Conducting archaeological field evaluations, as well as directing and supervising field staff during such evaluations.
• Assisting more senior level scientists on larger, more complex projects.
• Coordinating with clients and sub-consultants.
• Consulting with state and federal agencies, tribal groups, and other stakeholders.
• Performing National Register evaluations for archaeological sites.
• Preparation of written reports.

Requirements/Preferences:

• Graduate degree (MA, MS, PhD) in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related discipline and a minimum of 5 years of experience in the practice. Minimum of two years of field experience in Minnesota (required)
• Working knowledge of Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 138, Sections 31–42, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other pertinent State and Federal legislation.
• Secretary of Interior qualified as a Professional Archaeologist (required)
• Register of Professional Archaeologist (RPA) (preferred)
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting and walking on uneven surfaces carrying at least 20 lbs. of equipment, and ability to work in extreme (hot/cold) weather conditions.
• Ability to travel for overnight (including multiple days away) work assignments.
