Purpose of the role: Bangladesh Country Office of TdH NL announces its vacancy for the Project Coordinator (PC) position. The project is titled Speak up! Empowering CSOs to protect children and youth’s freedom of expression by capitalising on the opportunities and addressing the challenges in the digital space in Bangladesh.

The PC will be responsible for implementing the project that will focus on Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that interact with girls, boys, and gender-diverse children and youth who face discrimination based on various factors . The CSOs will support young people’s online safety and equip them with the knowledge, and skills to report and prevent online sexual exploitation and abuse and counter misinformation/disinformation. Systematic inclusion of child and youth voices will influence policy agendas, resulting in reforms that improve safety and space for children and youth’s freedom of expression online.

The PC will ensure coordination amongst the partners, relevant stakeholders at local, national and regional levels, civil societies, media and donor agencies including the European Union, and relevant government agencies for efficient management and successful implementation of the project. Activities within projects include capacity building, advocacy campaigns, research and collaboration with relevant stakeholders. The PC will also ensure compliance with the Government of Bangladesh, the European Union and TdH Netherlands policies and will ensure preparing detailed & timely progress reports (financial & narrative).

After your first year in this role, your greatest success will be that you have been able to enhance the capacities of CSOs with knowledge and skills so that they will be able to support young people’s online safety and equip them with the knowledge, and skills to report and prevent online sexual exploitation and abuse and counter misinformation/disinformation.

The Team: Our team consists of 158 employees in Europe, Asia and Africa with 47 partner organisations and 58 live projects in 25 countries. The Team is headed by two Executive Team members, supported by three Thematic Program Managers on Sexual Exploitation of Children, Child labour and Humanitarian assistance, two Regional Directors (Asia and Africa), a Communication Department, Programme Development and Quality, Human Resources, Research, Expertise and Influencing, Resource Mobilization, Finance, Integrity and Compliance.

Asia Region is headed by the Regional Director. The Asia Regional Team also comprised of Regional HR Coordinator, Finance Coordinator, MEAL and Communications advisors. Bangladesh Team is headed by a Country Director with a Head of Finance, a Programme Support, Programme Manager Moinittoring and Evaluation and Fundraising, one country Coordinator under DtZ-Stepping Up the Fight Against Sexual Exploitation of Children(SUFASEC)Alliance, one project coordinator, one Field Project coordinator, under the project Community-Based Child Protection Mechanism for the Children of Garment Workers in Bangladesh one Finance assistant and two support staff.

Objectives of the function:

The Project Coordinator is responsible for leading high quality implementation of the project in close coordination with all stakeholders and partners while ensuring full compliance with budgetary requirements and agreed timelines.

Location: This is a national position based in Dhaka and will require field visits to the project areas in Satkhira, Gazipur and Bagerhat districts.

Position in the organization: The Project Coordinator will be reporting to Country Director Bangladesh from whom s/he will receive direct supervision & line management support.

Result 1: Leading Project Implementation

  • The project will be implemented according to the objectives of the developed project plan together with the wider project team Project Implementation Plan (PIP) will be drawn up taking into account the organizational goals, frameworks, budgets and quality standards
  • Ensure proper coordination and provide strategic guidance to Speak Up project partners in planning, monitoring and implementation of the project.
  • Coordinate with the project partners, Country Team including Head of Finance and M&E Coordinator TdH Netherlands with necessary information and updates of the project.
  • The PC will also coordinate with a designated contact person from the IP department and Regional M & E, HR and Finance Coordinator including the PDQ department.

Result 2: Maintaining contacts to Improve service

  • Project implementation has been improved in such a way that responses to relevant developments and contacts are maintained with project partners and relevant stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization in different workshops and seminars.
  • Generate information on advocacy issues and conduct evidence-based advocacy at local, national and regional levels;
  • Lead media, communications and visibility related to the SPEAK UP project implementation; and following EU visibility policy.
  • Maintain coordination with the country and regional communications focal person.

Result 3: Improve workflows

  • Analyze and prioritise actions, train relevant staff, and improve work efficiency.

  • Guide and support the partners for the effective implementation of the planned activities, and monitor and review the targets and results.

  • Update the TdH-NL management on the challenges in the field operation and seek prompt actions to make decisions for the effective implementation of the project.

  • Share the progress findings, challenges and way forward with the team and the senior management

  • Ensure the implementation of the project activities, on time, on budget and scope, track the progress and give timely feedback and follow-up actions.

  • Provide budget management support to the partners while managing the project budget with due compliance

  • Train staff members on the project’s thematic areas, including child protection, child rights programming, safeguarding, and children’s and youth empowerment. Knowledge and experience The ideal candidate will be committed to the mission and vision of Terre des Hommes Netherlands and has a proven track record in working with European Funded Projects on child rights with special focus on the capacity building of CSOs and empowerment of children for promoting child rights Civil Society (including women, youth and child rights) Required

    Background (Education, Knowledge and Experience) Education: Master’s degree preferably in social science/ development studies/ any relevant areas related to children’s development.

    Knowledge & Experience:

  • Minimum ten years of experience working with NGOs in implementing and managing projects in the development field in the context of Bangladesh

  • High level of applied or academic thought and working ability

  • Knowledge of relevant networks & advocacy forums in Bangladesh with track record of positive influencing

  • Advanced level knowledge in the field of project management.

  • Skills in writing concrete project work plans and writing quarterly and annual reports as required by Terre des Hommes and donors.

  • Hands-on experience in project cycle management including managing budget, and monitoring outputs.

  • Excellent leadership and negotiation qualities, experience in coordinating multi-partner projects and facilitating workshops and training programmes.

  • Excellent presentation & report-writing skills.

  • Knowledge and prior work experience on child rights and children development, children and youth group development and capture learning.

  • Appropriate IT and computer skills are a must to cope with organizational work requirements.

  • Language Skills: Excellent proficiency in English is a must . Competences : Problem solver, High Achiever, Results Driven & Team Player

  • Contract will be for three years as a fixed term.

  • The gross salary for this job is BD Taka 148,850 approximately per month. depending on experience and seniority based on a full-time (40 hrs) contract

  • On an annual basis, the Employee is allowed to carry over a maximum balance of five (5) leave days from one year to the next and to take five (5) days from the following year’s entitlement to the present year.

  • Sick leave with full pay only applies after successful completion of the probation period and to a maximum of twelve (12) calendar days in twelve months with full pay, or as stated in the labour law of the respective country.

  • Provident Fund is paid from the organisation @ 10% of the basic salary after the confirmation of the probation period for three months and 10% of the basic salary is deducted from the staff salary which will be paid to staff after the separation of the contract.

  • Transport Allowance is paid BDT 400 per day based on the actual attendance to the office.

  • Festival allowance is paid twice a year on a pro-rata basis.

  • Gratuity is paid annually on a pro-rata basis.

  • All staff members are allowed to receive outdoor health coverage and health insurance as per the policy of the organisation.
