An internship with the Protection Unit offers experience in the humanitarian operations, focusing on protection services and collaboration with governmental institutions which will prepare interns for future careers in the humanitarian sector. Interns will gain practical skills in providing administrative support, data consolidation and review, monitoring social service updates, logistical coordination, translation, and report writing.
Protection intern will support Protection Unit in various administrative, clerical and programmatic activities as detailed below.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Under the overall guidance of the Associate Protection Officer the intern will;
- Support with day-to-day tasks by providing clerical and administrative support.
- Regularly monitor relevant websites to track updates and announcements with regards to social services and social protection.
- Assist in data consolidation, file management and other similar tasks related to UNHCR’s engagement with the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
- Assist the Protection Unit with logistical support for capacity development activities and other activities as relevant.
- Provide support to the unit in categorizing information through reviewing reports and news relevant to social services.
- Assist in the translation (English to Turkish and vice versa) of documents and support in proofreading of reports and documents translated.
- Participate in meetings, workshops, trainings, take notes and draft minutes / reports.
- Perform other duties as required.
Minimum qualifications required:
- In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
- Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.
Qualifications and skills:
- Graduated or under-graduated student in social sciences or any other related fields.
- Strong interest in working in a refugee context.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
- Proficiency in spoken and written English and Turkish
- Pro-activeness, flexibility, and adaptability.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage stress efficiently.
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Relevant previous experience would be an additional asset.
