The Global Fundraising team sparks innovation within PSI by matching risk-tolerant donors to high-impact projects and systems across the firm. In collaboration with colleagues across the globe, we identify and find funding for transformational projects and investments in global public health. We collaborate closely with corporations, private philanthropists, and foundations to conceptualize the future of global health and translate those visions into reality.
PSI is looking for an accomplished individual for the role of Managing Director. As the Southern Africa Managing Director, you will drive business growth, enhance digital innovations, and ensure operational excellence for the Southern Africa business. This role combines strategic leadership, entrepreneurship, partnership identification and management, stakeholder engagement and sourcing and managing investment into the South African business.

Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
support the VP, Social Business & Global Operations to work across the organization to support in the identification and codification of a pipeline of innovative projects that directly contribute towards PSI’s strategic plan.
You will also be support in the following areas:
Business Development & Growth:
Manage and expand Viya Health in Southern Africa by identifying new product opportunities, impactful partnerships and digital innovations that drive both business and social impact. Develop and execute multi-year business plans, own financial performance and P&L management to consistently deliver on results, and support regional operations, ensuring alignment with strategic growth objectives.
Strategy & Execution:
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop a cohesive digital ecosystem and lead the activation and development of a cohesive Viya Health business in Southern Africa. Ensure Viya Health is one business in Southern Africa and that data and consumer insight is at the centre of strategic decision making at a business level. Manage online spending to achieve business goals. Oversee the design and implementation of strategies for customer acquisition, retention, and engagement across all channels. Evaluate investments from digital to partnerships to products, ensuring alignment with ROI targets and consumer experience improvements.
Business Growth:
Lead the development of a growth strategy for Southern Africa, taking global consumer segmentation and portfolio planning to design an appropriately researched growth strategy for Southern Africa, including new product launches and the evolution of the business to better align to the Viya Health ecosystem business model. Managing launches to deliver as per plan and appropriately balancing running the existing business while growing the future business. Manage the development of a South Africa growth strategy and then manage the execution to come in on time and on budget.
Stakeholder Engagement & Representation:
Position the organization within the broader Southern Africa community by identifying and managing partnerships, seeking funding, and integrating evidence into business model design. Represent Viya Health to investors, governments, funders, and other stakeholders, ensuring a balance between profitability and social impact.
Operational Efficiency & Governance:
Lead the development of efficient systems to support timely delivery and quality programming. Oversee financial, administrative, and logistical resources, ensuring adherence to standards, policies, and strategic objectives. Support change management processes to adapt to new technologies and approaches.
People Management:
Develop a people management strategy focused on building a high-performing team. Recruit, support, and manage team members, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and client-centricity. Prepare and execute annual budgets, work plans, and performance measures to achieve organizational goals.
Performance Measurement & Reporting:
Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for the entire Viya Health business. Gather data and insights to measure performance against strategic objectives, optimizing plans to improve business outcomes.
Knowledge Management:
Develop and implement strategies for capturing, sharing, and utilizing organizational knowledge to drive continuous improvement and innovation. Foster a culture of learning by ensuring best practices, insights, and data are effectively documented, disseminated, and applied across teams and projects. Promote the use of digital tools and platforms to enhance collaboration and knowledge exchange among internal and external stakeholders.
Delivering financial commitments
- Delivers financial commitments to optimize short term performance and long-term growth while ensuring compliance with all laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Appropriately allocates resources to align with regional and global strategies.
- Conducts financial reviews to monitor business performance.
- Establishes appropriate budget goals aligned with external marketplace and internal strategy.
- Enhances and ensures financial forecasting accuracy.
Institutionalizing a culture of compliance
- Communicates and sets the example for why compliance is integral to business success and achieving competitive advantage in the marketplace.
- Establishes and monitors the financial and business controls and processes to follow internal and external rules and regulations for or within the legal entity.
- Ensure that all relevant Company Policies and Procedures are understood by the team and adhered to.
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring
The basics
Education & Experience:
- University Degree in Commerce or Marketing, a postgraduate qualification will be advantageous (Hons or MBA)
- 15 years’ experience of which at least 5 years should be managing a P&L. Multi-country management experience preferred.
- Must have FMCG / Consumer Health background
- Experience managing markets outside of SA strongly recommended
- Cross functional (commercial) management experience (operations, sales, marketing, finance & human resources)
- Profit and Loss management
- Dossier management / Legislation in different markets
- Strategy development and execution
- Understanding of local legislation.
