LOCATION OF (1) position(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION, MARK LUTTRELL TRANSITION CENTER, SHELBY COUNTY

Qualifications
education and experience: Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in divinity, theology, or religious studies and experience equivalent to two years of full-time professional pastoral work.
Substitution for the Required Master’s Degree: Additional professional pastoral experience may substitute for the required graduate education on a year-for-year basis. (Two years of experience is required to completely substitute for the master’s degree.)Substitution of Specialized Training for Experience: Completion of the Basic level in an accredited Clinical Pastoral Education Program (i.e., CPE ‘ Basic) may substitute for one year of the required experience.
Substitution of Education for Experience: Graduate coursework in divinity, theology, or religious studies may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years. (36 quarter hours of study equals one year of experience.) Substitution for the Required Bachelor’s Degree: Additional professional pastoral experience may substitute for the required undergraduate education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years. OR Two years of full-time professional pastoral work with the State of Tennessee.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicant must have a current ordination or endorsement by their religious faith community. Examination Method: Education and Experience,100%, for Preferred Service positions.
Overview
Under general supervision, is responsible for performing pastoral work of considerable difficulty; and performs related work as required. An incumbent in this class directs pastoral services as the only residential chaplain at an institution in a mental health or correctional setting. This class differs from Psychiatric Chaplain 1 in that an incumbent of the latter acts in an entry working level capacity. This class differs from Psychiatric Chaplain 3 in that an incumbent of the latter directs pastoral services and supervises other chaplains.
Responsibilities
1. Interprets various rules, regulations, and policies for internal and external partners to facilitate understanding, ensuring accurate communication of procedures and documentation.
2. Processes individual and group religious accommodation requests per policy, verifies accuracy of information from various sources, and compiles reports and files on religious matters.
3. Reviews and evaluates current chaplaincy policies to ensure compliance, making recommendations for adjustments as needed.
4. Models effective performance to encourage team success and build trust while evaluating volunteer performance to ensure adherence to policies.
5. Communicates with external partners, families, offenders, clients, and volunteers to provide information, ensure coverage, and facilitate religious and personal matters.
6. Offers emotional support to offenders, clients, and their families, as well as staff and their families, during times of illness, death, or personal need.
7. Coordinates special activities and events by utilizing volunteer groups and managing schedules for religious services, volunteer participation, and meetings.
8. Manages scheduling, filing, and correspondence, incorporating unscheduled tasks to ensure the timely completion of work, and organizing personal workload.
9. Monitors religious activities, volunteers performance, and communication between offenders/clients and their families to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
10. Conducts orientation and training sessions for volunteers and new employees, providing necessary information on religious services and enhancing knowledge for offenders/clients.
