The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.
The Department Values:
The Department’s primary focus is currently on increasing access to Abnormal Behavior (PSYC 340), Human sexuality (PSYC 356), Physiology and Pharmacology: Alcohol & Other drugs (PSYC 401/HSER 341), Techniques of Interviewing and Counseling (HSER 360), Group Techniques (HSER 365) courses as these are a part of the degrees in Psychology and Human Services/Chemical Dependency certificates. The demand for these courses has been consistently increasing in part due to the popularity of the Psychology degree (34.4% of all awarded AATs in the college in 2024-25) and growth of the Human Services/Chemical Dependency program (19.6%) along with increases in mental and behavioral health jobs in the Sacramento region. Of particular note, the Human Services/Chemical Dependency program is an approved and accredited program with CCAPP (California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals) in which specified courses must be offered in-person and faculty must be clinically trained and hold one of the following licenses: LCSW, MFT, LPCC, clinical psychology, or be a CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) lll or its equivalent.

Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8).
