THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Radiation Health Physicist Trainee, you will participate in a one-year formal and on-the-job training program to learn the duties of a Radiation Health Physicist 1. The trainee level requires direct supervision by the supervisor for a period of twelve to twenty-four months. Upon successful completion of the training period, you will become fully qualified and signed off authorizing specific inspection activities as required. You will have the opportunity to attend training courses, meetings, conferences, and seminars associated with field staff duties and responsibilities. This position keeps current with new innovations, policies, or activities of the regulated community.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- Occasional travel to various field sites will be required.
- Salary: Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $50,836 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of technical work experience in the recognition, evaluation, and control of radiation hazards and 20 college credits in health physics or radiological sciences; or
- Two years of technical work experience in the recognition, evaluation, and control of radiation hazards and an associate degree in radiation physics or a related field; or
- A bachelor’s degree in health physics, radiation physics, radiation biology, nuclear physics, or applied health physics; or
- A bachelor’s degree with major course work in the physical, biological, or radiological sciences or in nuclear engineering that includes 20 college credits in health physics or radiological sciences; or
- Possession of a certificate of registration issued by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of an active non-commercial PA Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
