How can you make a difference? 

Purpose for the job: 

The Immunization Specialist is accountable for providing professional leadership and contributing to the development, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and administration of the immunization programme in polio-endemic and high-risk provinces particularly in the southern and eastern regions. This role works in close coordination with Maternal and Child Health and the Nutrition components within the country programme to achieve UNICEF’s immunization and polio-eradication goals and objectives.

The position is also accountable for ensuring that the UNICEF immunization programme promotes gender equality, with a strong emphasis on gender-disaggregated data, identification of gender disparities, and effective gender mainstreaming across programme design and implementation.

Summary of Key function, accountabilities and related duties/tasks:

  1. Timely sectoral analysis, input, support and coordination contribute to the Situation Analysis with consistent integration of sex disaggregated data and its periodic update for effective project planning, development and management.
  2. Quality contributions are made to the development and implementation of the Immunization strategies and approaches through participation and collaboration with internal and external partners.
  3. Work plan and objectives are strategically established, technical support is effectively provided, and planned results are timely delivered through exercise of strong technical leadership.
  4. Project implementation progress is monitored and evaluated for adjustment, acceleration and improvement of program delivery and sustainability.
  5. Technical support is provided to partners and NGOs at all stages of the programme cooperation, including capacity building of programme personnel and implementers.

Minimum requirements:

Education: 

  • Advanced university degree in Public Health, Medical Sciences, Paediatric Health, Child Development, Child Health, Nutrition, Epidemiology, Public Administration, Social Policy, Social Development, Community Development, or other relevant disciplines.

Work Experience:

  • Five years of professional work experience in planning, programming, implementation monitoring and evaluation of health/Immunization programmes.
  • At least 2 years in immunization at the national and/or international levels field work experience would be an asset.
  • Experience of working for Health System Strengthening and polio-endemic context will be an asset.
  • Background/familiarity with Emergency context.

Language Requirements: 

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of the local language of the duty station is highly desirable.

Desirables:

Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
