Overview

The Vermont State Archives and Records Administration (VSARA) has an exciting and unique opportunity for a dynamic and energetic information professional to coordinate the Vermont Local Records Program and provide direct, hands-on guidance, support and training to a broad range of local government offices on how to manage their public records and information in accordance with the law as well as state and industry standards and best practices.

The ideal candidate is a highly organized collaborator and an effective communicator with advanced knowledge of information management standards and best practices. At this level, the ability to plan, lead, evolve, and expand the services offered by the Vermont Local Records Program and to travel within the State of Vermont are needed.

What Will You Do and Who Will You Work With?

The Vermont Local Records Program is integrated with the Vermont Historical Records Program (VHRP) and reports to the VHRP Director. You will identify, classify and analyze recordkeeping requirements to develop information policies and standards, including record schedules, and update existing ones. You will also provide a full range of consultation and outreach services.

A typical month may include onsite visits to municipal offices to assist with managing paper and digital records, collaborating with other VSARA Records and Information Management Specialists on formulating records retention policies, responding to emails and guidance requests from local government officials, and presenting at a local government meeting about how to manage public records and information.
