Research Assistant

We are looking for a Research Assistant with a background in immunology/neurobiology to join the interdisciplinary laboratory of Dr Fränze Progatzky at the Kennedy Institute, to work within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences. You will contribute to a Wellcome funded research project to study the role of peripheral glial cells in the regulation of immune homeostasis and inflammation of the lung and to determine underlying pathways that control their interaction with other lung tissues in health and disease.

This role involves experimental support to ongoing research projects and playing a key role in the maintenance and smooth operation of the laboratory.

You will perform general laboratory management and administration, ensuring the laboratory is organised and compliant with health and safety regulations. You will manage inventory, order supplies, and prepare materials and reagents for experiments, as well as maintaining accurate documentation of laboratory activities, including cleaning schedules and equipment logs, and support sustainability initiatives.

You must hold a first degree in biological sciences, together with sufficient specialist knowledge and relevant experience of working in an interdisciplinary research team studying tissue neuro/immuno-biology. You will have experience in research with in vivo animal models to study inflammation and in following and adapting protocols for ex vivo analysis of tissue (flow cytometry, qPCR, immunohistochemistry, microscopy). Experience of contributing to reports and articles for publication is desirable.

This is a fixed-term, full time position for 3 years.
