SalaryThe salary range for this position is CAD $24.76/Hr. – CAD $32.50/Hr.Summaryis now hiring a permanent, full-time Research Assistant for their new Phase 1 Unit at Mount St. Joseph’s Hospital in beautiful Mount Pleasant. Reporting to the Research Operations Manager and receiving direction from the Research Coordinator(s), the Research Assistant provides operational and administrative support to the Principal Investigator(s) and other staff in the implementation and conduct of various research studies and related activities in accordance with applicable policies, standards, procedures, and protocols.What You BringEducation, Training and Experience

  • Completion of a recognized degree in a relevant field plus one (1) to two (2) years’ previous research experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Applicants with relevant health or social services related certifications will be considered.
  • Must have completed GCP/TCPS2.0/ Div 5/ TDG training before interacting with any participants and must re-certify every 2 years.
  • Experience working with human research participants is a must.

Preferred Competencies:

  • Experience working in both Industry and academic clinical research.
  • Experience with primary data entry.
  • Experience with REB/knowledge of Canadian regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge or experience with REDCap or other Electronic Data Capture Systems.
  • Phlebotomy training.
  • SOCRA, ACRP or equivalent certification.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with clarity, tact, and courtesy with participants all members of the research team, hospital staff, physicians, faculty, students, and others.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated analytical and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use electronic health records systems (e.g., Cerner, Meditech, Plexia).
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex documents (e.g. clinical trials, SOPS, technical manuals).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle competing demands with diplomacy and enthusiasm.
  • Demonstrated adaptability to changing working situations and work assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to absorb large amounts of information quickly.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy with Microsoft Word, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and database management skills.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

  • Recruits and screens, enrolls, and follows study participants in compliance with study protocol.
  • Schedules study visits with participants.
  • Follows Clinical Trial Protocol and carries out research assessments and activities.
  • Collects, extracts, and enters data into electronic data capture systems in accordance with specific study requirements.
  • Reviews medical records.
  • Consults with study PI and/or Research Nurse to to determine eligibility and treatment requirements of protocol from registration to completion of participants.
  • Communicates with sponsor/CRA to assist with the implementation and smooth running of the trial.
  • Facilitates communication with personnel and participants to maintain project study flow.
  • Maintains detailed records of study visits and results.
  • Tracks, distributes and records compensation to participants.
  • May be required to perform basic sample collection on participants if required in accordance with applicable procedures/protocol.
  • Participates in study-related documentation, such as protocol worksheets, procedural manuals, adverse event reports, institutional review board documents, or progress reports.
  • Responsible for ensuring office and clinical supplies are stocked in clinical areas (e.g. blood kits, study kit itinerary, cleaning supplies, office supplies, temperature monitoring).
  • Available to work flexible hours, overnight and shifts.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
