CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The City College of New York (CCNY) is accepting applications for a university-funded Research Associate (“RA”) in the field of remote sensing and environmental data analysis. The RA will work with faculty to prepare proposals and collaborate on sponsored research projects and write scientific reports and manuscripts for presentation at national conferences.
The RA, reporting to the Dean of Engineering, also plays a pivotal role in the maintenance and operation of CCNY ground-based and remote sensing observational facilities on campus and in the field. The set of instruments represent a major investment over the years. These instruments provide atmospheric structure and composition data that is used by CCNY researchers and their partners at other academic institutions, as well as New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and other regional and national environmental agencies, including NOAA and NASA. The data from these instruments is critical to research into and understanding of severe weather (e.g. storms and heatwaves), pollutant transport and fate, greenhouse gas emissions and impacts of climate change on our region. The rooftop observing systems at CCNY (located on the Wille Administration building, Steinman Hall, and the Marshak building) include a visible radiometer and a profiling microwave radiometers, a lidar Ceilometer, a weather station tower and an air sampling analysis station and a lidar wind profiler, there is other equipment also off campus. There is no other site of this caliber it in New York City or the tri-state area.
The RA will collaborate on research proposals and projects with faculty and facilitate both graduate and undergraduate student research projects and provide training to students that will prepare them for careers in observing systems engineering, sensors and sensor networks, remote sensing, environmental monitoring, and environmental data analysis.
CUNY’s research community includes several hundred chemists, biologists, physicists, medical researchers, and both chemical and biomedical engineers who interact within a university network of 25 colleges and professional schools.
