About usThe post of Research Fellow in the Rescue, Repair and Regeneration Theme of the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, ranked the best place in the world to study ophthalmology (CWUR Rankings by Subject 2017), is part of a research collaboration with SANTEN INC. The appointed candidate will benefit from the opportunities afforded by being part of the larger financial and administrative community of the Faculty of Brain Sciences, School of Life and Medical Sciences and University College London (UCL).About the roleThe post offers an exciting opportunity for someone to play a key role in the investigation of the biological neuroprotective function of extracellular vesicles EVs utilising retinal organoids derived from PSC in vitro, as well as experimental models of retinal degeneration, including glaucoma and retinitis pigmentosa.The appointed candidate will join a team of Scientists and Clinicians from the Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital, working in translational projects to design innovative treatments for retinal disease.This post is available as soon as possible and is funded until 31 December 2026 in the first instance.The salary for this post is from £44,480 – £45,622 inclusive of London AllowanceAbout youThe successful candidate will have a PhD in a biological science related to Neuroscience / Ophthalmology.Experience of working in cell culture techniques and with experimental models in a laboratory setting is essential as is knowledge of molecular biology techniques.The successful candidate will have a proven ability of aseptic technique for culture and characterisation of pluripotent stem cells and experience in confocal microscopy and histology techniques.The ability to act on initiative, problem-solve and communicate and collaborate effectively is also essential.Application ProcessIf you have any queries regarding the vacancy please contact Professor Astrid Limb (email: [email protected]) and Dr Hari Jayaram (email: [email protected]).
