Overview of Department & Mentor
Dr. Ebinger is the Director of Cardiac Critical Care and the Director of Clinical Analytics in the Smidt Heart Institute. His NIH funded work focuses on leveraging clinically generated data to identify opportunities to improve the value of cardiovascular care and using implementation science principles to study the development and integration of novel interventions into clinical workflows.
Student will work with Dr. Ebinger in his office on the 3rd floor of the PACT Building.
Role Summary & Objectives
This research project will evaluate the influence of atrial fibrillation (AF) duration on treatment effectiveness and
choice of modalities, The researcher will be investigating how the length of time a patient has been experiencing AF
impacts the success rates and recurrence rates of various treatment strategies. Under faculty supervision, the researcher
will conduct a comprehensive review of recent clinical studies and patient data to analyze outcomes of both
pharmacological and electrical cardioversion in relation to AF duration. The research phase will involve
collecting data from medical records, identifying patient cohorts based on AF duration, and performing
statistical analyses to compare the effectiveness of different treatment modalities. The researcher will also explore how the
duration of AF affects the choice between pharmacological and electrical cardioversion. In the final project, the researcher
will present the findings, emphasizing how understanding the relationship between AF duration and
treatment outcomes can help optimize therapeutic strategies and improve patient prognosis. The approach
will include detailed analysis, data visualization, and evidence-based recommendations for clinical practice.
