What You’ll Do
- The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the full life cycle of research laboratory equipment. This will include the coordination for installations, calibration, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
They will create & maintain equipment logs, service records, and warranties to plan for life cycle and replacement. They will also work with laboratory staff on developing a process for equipment support. Lastly, they will work with the budget team and procurement to budget for repairs and replacement of equipment. - Facilities & Space Planning
The incumbent will serve as the primary point of contract for closures, moves, and other transitions as it relates to laboratory space. This will include the onboarding of new researches, including lab set up, and equipment readiness. Additionally, the proper decommissioning and re-assignment of lab space and equipment will fall to this role. This individual will also be responsible for partnering with Facilities and external vendors to address infrastructure and maintenance needs.
- Compliance & Safety
This individual will ensure that research laboratory operations adhere to school, state, and federal safety compliance standards in partnership with environmental health & safety. They will assist in maintaining safety documentation, chemical inventories, and other safety requirements. They will also assist in laboratory inspections and management of follow-up inspection tasks.
- Administrative Support & Collaboration
While the primary functions of this role will support research laboratory operations, the role will serve as a member of the TUSDM Operations team and will be expected to provide general support to the operations team, and may assist in clinical, educational, or any other general school project. Crossing functions of this role, the incumbent will be responsible for working closely with PIs, Research Administration Staff, Facilities, and Tufts Technology services to forward the mission of the school.
What We’re Looking For
Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a science related field.
- 2-4 years of experience in a laboratory, research, or operations environment.
- Excellent organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage vendors, faculty, and administrative partners.
- Ability to complete all required background checks at the time of hire, promotion, or transfer.
- Familiarity with lab management or inventory systems.
- Knowledge of regulatory and safety standards (e.g., OSHA, biosafety).
Pay Range
Minimum $60,000.00, Midpoint $75,000.00, Maximum $90,100.00
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
