Overview (quick description of the funded project and its context)

UNITAR is an autonomous body within the United Nations that was established in 1965 pursuant to a UN General Assembly resolution. UNITAR’s mission is to develop the individual, institutional and organisational capacities of countries and other United Nations stakeholders through high quality learning solutions and related knowledge products and services to enhance decision-making and to support country-level action for overcoming global challenges.

UNITAR Division for Peace groups together all programming in the fields of conflict prevention, peace-making, peacekeeping and peacebuilding to provide the most comprehensive support to the promotion of peace, justice and strong institutions worldwide, thereby essentially advancing the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 16. In the view of promoting democratic governance and human rights, the Division focuses on offering innovative capacity-building and knowledge-management solutions for a broad range personnel (including uniformed personnel, representatives of regional and international organizations, United Nations staff, women peacemakers, minority and indigenous peoples’ representatives) working towards sustaining peace, while ensuring that these activities meet the specific needs of conflict-affected and post-conflict countries.

General objectives of the contract

The Trainee will work closely with the Pre-deployment Training and Advisory Team and provide support with a wide variety of tasks linked to the development and delivery of the Reinforcement Training Package for Military Gender Advisors, online course on intercultural competencies and online course on Conflict-related sexual violences.

Responsibilities/Description of Professional Services
  • Review and implement approved changes on the UN RTP MGA course content and materials to improve harmonization and access to the course.
  • Support the development and organization of training materials for in-person training.
  • Support with the development and management of an online community of practice for MGA participants.
  • Assist with the coordination, development, and implementation of PDTA online courses.
  • Support with the management of online courses (responding to participants questions and any other email inquiries);
  • Assist with the administrative coordination, development, and implementation of in person trainings.
  • Assist in organizing and managing webinars, launch events, and in-person training sessions.
  • Help collect and organize data for project reports, including for partners and EMS.
  • Support with the drafting of various written outputs.
  • Support with translation and edition from English into French and reversely;
  • Support with the communication around project activities (preparation of communication and promotional materials, social media posts, etc.).
  • Assisting in the day-to-day operational requirements.
  • Performing any other duty as requested by the supervisor.
Measurable outputs / deliverables / schedule of deliverables
  • Accurate and up-to-date project schedules are maintained, with evidence provided of the timely completion of logistical and organizational tasks.
  • The successful coordination and implementation of assigned online courses is granted.
  • All participant inquiries are responded to during the traineeship duration.
  • The organization of in-person trainings is supported, with clear documentation of tasks completed on schedule.
  • Effective communication among project team members and external stakeholders is facilitated, ensuring that 100% of task deadlines are met as per the project timeline.
  • Data for project reports is collected, organized, and submitted, ensuring accuracy and alignment with partner and EMS requirements.
  • Written outputs, such as donor reports, project updates, translations or other required documents, are drafted, ensuring clarity and alignment with project goals.
  • The creation and dissemination of communication materials (e.g. promotional materials, social media posts) are supported, contributing to increased project visibility.

By the end of the traineeship, the incumbent will be able to:

  • Gain skills in coordinating and implementing online courses, including managing participant inquiries and ensuring seamless execution.
  • Enhance organizational skills by supporting the planning and execution of in-person trainings, including documenting and managing logistics effectively.
  • Improve operational skills by actively engaging in project management tasks and day-to-day project operations to support project goals efficiently.
  • Develop expertise in drafting written outputs, such as donor reports and project updates, with an emphasis on clarity and alignment with project objectives.

Timely and quality submission of the deliverables; activities implemented with a high degree of effectiveness and efficiency, demonstrating a high degree of professionalism of the Trainee and contributing to an increase in the professional image of the Institute.
