RISK AND LEGAL COORDINATOR

Overview

The Risk and Legal Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating the risk management and legal activities within Kennedy Krieger. The incumbent will assist the Assistant Vice President of Quality Patient Safety Professional Affairs (QPSPA)/Risk Management and other legal advisors as needed. This position will serve as an initial point of contact for legal concerns, provide administrative support, manage subpoenas, court orders, and legal requests. The role includes liaising with external law firms, assisting with claim history, research, and contract reviews. The incumbent will draft legal documents, coordinate the debriefing process, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. This staff member will uphold and ensure confidentiality and will establish and manage systems to maintain data integrity and business operations.

Responsibilities

1. Serve as an initial point of contact for potential legal concerns. Evaluate concerns, determine priority level, and triage them to the appropriate person to be addressed.
2. Provide administrative and strategic support to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Quality Patient Safety Professional Affairs (QPSPA)/Risk Management and other legal advisors.
3. Monitor deadlines and manage the processing of subpoenas, court orders or other legal requests from attorneys.
4. Draft and help prepare legal documents for submission to courts or regulatory bodies.
5. Provide guidance and assist staff with understanding court orders or other legal requests from attorneys.
6. Review subpoenas and maintain subpoena log. Forward subpoenas to medical records and provide testimony preparation as needed.
7. Liaise and communicate with external law firms as needed.
8. Assist with reviewing contracts, conducting in-depth research, the claim’s history process, and file maintenance.
9. Coordinate the debriefing processes as needed.
10. Collaborate with AVP of QPSPA/Risk Management to ensure that the organization adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
11. Manage and revise relevant Risk Management policies, plans, and processes as needed.
12. Establish and maintain systems to ensure proper organization, integrity, and confidentiality of all records, data, and office business.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree in a political science, healthcare or related field is required.
• Master’s degree in a political science, healthcare, or related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

• Must have two years of experience in health care, legal services, or risk management.
• Must have experience with project management.
