Job Overview

The Operating Room Nurse, also known as a Perioperative Nurse, is responsible for providing safe, high-quality, and compassionate nursing care to patients undergoing surgical or invasive procedures,

The OR Nurse collaborates closely with the surgical team to ensure patient safety, sterile technique, and efficient case flow before, during, and after surgery,

Key Responsibilities

• Review surgical schedule and prepare necessary supplies and equipment,
• Assess patients prior to surgery and verify surgical consent and required documentation,
• Ensure patient safety by completing preoperative checklists and confirming surgical site,
• Maintain sterile field and aseptic technique at all times,
• Serve as scrub nurse, circulating nurse, or assist in positioning and prepping the patient,
• Anticipate surgeon needs and manage instruments, sponges, and medications during the procedure,
• Monitor patient s vital signs and respond to changes in condition promptly,
• Collaborate with PACU staff for handoff,
• Document intraoperative activities, counts, and any incidents per hospital policy,
• Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the patient s medical record,
• Participate in surgical safety protocols eg, time-outs, counts, infection control,
• Maintain OR readiness and restock supplies and instruments,
• Support orientation and training of new staff and students,
• Engage in continuous professional development and quality improvement initiatives,

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

• Active, valid NJ Registered Nurse license
• ASN or Nursing diploma required, BSN preferred
• BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association required

Scheduling Requirements

• Day shift 40 hours per week
