Job summary

RNAS Culdrose is a strategically important airfield location and part of the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy. It is a significant base for the Navy’s maritime Merlins and as one of Europe’s largest helicopter bases, it employs 3,000 people. It oversees the training of rotary winged aircrew, firefighters and increasingly, the development of uncrewed air systems and training of UAS operators.

RNAS Culdrose is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Information Management Officer to join the team here in Cornwall. Sitting within the Corporate Services Department, the Information Management Officer (IMO), has responsibility for the day-to-day implementation of IM on behalf of the Information Manager (iMgr) and acts as the point of contact for support on all Information Management (IM) issues. The team includes Civilian and Military personnel, is led by the Information Manager, and operates as part of the Corporate Services team within the Executive.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Person specification

Successful candidates are required to have:

  • Knowledge of Information Management best practice, including data protection.
  • Strong communicator, both written and verbally, including workshop facilitation and presentations to customers and stakeholders.
  • Reliability, Confidentiality, Discretion.
  • Experience of working with a wide network of stakeholders.
  • Proactively manages their own and their teams’ priorities.

Post Joining:

  • IMO/KIM Course, Classroom based, Defence Academy Shrivenham.
  • MOD mandated and core training (available through the Defence Learning Environment or Civil Service Learning Portal)
  • GKIM Curriculum (Civil Service Learning)

Desirable Criteria:

  • Familiarity and/or confidence with IT and Microsoft products (including SharePoint) are desired but not required as on-the-job training will be provided.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses. 

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
