Org. Setting and Reporting
The Department of Operational Support (DOS) was established to provide end-to-end operational support, advisory services and other solutions to operating entities across the Secretariat, including departments, offices away from headquarters, peace operations, and regional commissions. The Regional Service Centre in Entebbe, Uganda (RSCE), was established in July 2010, following the adoption of General Assembly resolution 64/269. The Centre provides efficient, client-oriented and scalable services with the goal of moving transactional, non-location dependent administrative functions to the Centre from its client entities. This includes transactional elements of human resources, finance, multimodal movement and control, personnel and cargo transport and information and communications technology (ICT) support. In addition to these services, the Office of the Director RSCE and support offices through the Deputy Director RSCE provides overall guidance on the operations of the RSCE including strategic planning, communication, budgeting, human resources management, property management, quality assurance and business intelligence, conference services, record keeping and archive management, and audit response and risk management. This internship opportunity is in the Quality Assurance and Business Intelligence Unit (QABI) in the Regional Service Center in Entebbe. The Intern will work under the supervision of the Chief of Unit.
Responsibilities
The duties of the Operational Service Desk Intern may include but are not limited to: • Work with OSD team to organize Knowledge Sharing Sessions. • Support with creating proactive reports that would be published to be accessed by service lines. • Analyse and review reports for Quality Assurance as well as identify gaps. • Analyze data and derive insights from reports to influence business decisions. Performs other duties as required such as: • Data mining and converting raw data into meaningful and actionable business analysis and insights that will enable upper management to make proactive decisions. • Delivering analysis, insights and reporting that will influence business strategy and decisions. • Work with business users to understand requirements and translate these into BI reporting solutions

Ability to use for data visualization such as Excel, Power BI to produce meaningful dashboards and be able to mine data and convert it into applicable insights. Education
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in data science, statistics, mathematics, public administration, human resources or administration, business management, information technology, or related field; (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in data science, statistics, mathematics, public administration, human resources or administration, business management, information technology, or related field.

Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Knowledge of Programing languages in SQL, R,Python or similar languages to manipulate data is desirable. Proficiency in data manipulation, analytics, and visualization skill-set as well as ability to source, clean and manipulate data from databases (SQL server, CSV, and other data sources is desirable. Ability to use data visualization tools such as Excel, Power BI and Knime, is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required; and knowledge of French is desirable.

Special Notice
This internship is for an initial period of three (3) months, which may be extend to a maximum duration of six (6) months. The Intern will work full-time (5) five days, (40) forty hours per week, in person at the duty station. The intern will be expected to have the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
