Job Description:
Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Scientific Editor in the Brain and Metabolism Imaging Laboratory.
The Scientific Editor will support biomedical imaging research by editing, proofreading, and developing scientific and educational content. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong foundation in science communication and some experience in editing within medical, scientific, or academic settings. Responsibilities include reviewing and refining manuscripts, abstracts, grant proposals, and internal reports to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency. The editor will also assist with organizing and interpreting study data, supporting data presentation, and contributing to the preparation of publications and presentations. Collaboration with researchers and lab staff is essential to maintain high standards of scientific communication.
Major Responsibilities
- Edit, proofread, and format scientific and non-scientific documents
- Summarize research findings and clinical outcomes
- Create and revise scientific presentations and executive summaries
- Conduct literature reviews and synthesize relevant information
- Develop and edit slides for educational and research use
- Fact-check clinical and scientific content for accuracy
- Format references according to AMA style guidelines
- Assist with organizing and interpreting study data
- Collaborate with researchers and lab staff on publication materials
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, medical, or health-related field (e.g., Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Public Health, or related discipline)
- 1 year of relevant experience in scientific or medical editing, writing, or research support (internships or academic experience may be considered)
- Strong written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to edit and proofread technical content
- Familiarity with scientific writing styles and terminology
- Basic understanding of biomedical research and clinical study design
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in scientific or medical editing
- Familiarity with biomedical imaging terminology and research
- Experience preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals
- Understanding and knowledge of MRI/MRS and PET data
- Proficiency with reference management tools (e.g., EndNote, Zotero)
- Experience with AMA, APA, or other scientific style guides
- Familiarity with data visualization or presentation tools (e.g., GraphPad, Adobe Illustrator, PowerPoint)
- Experience working in a research or academic environment
