Aspen Strategy Group
The Aspen Strategy Group (ASG), a policy program of the Aspen Institute, is a resolutely nonpartisan forum in which preeminent experts and policymakers explore the most pressing foreign policy and national security challenges facing the United States. The Strategy Group convenes annually in Aspen, Colorado in public and private settings, as well as various domestic and international locations throughout the year, to hold strategic discussions on issues that affect American interests at home and abroad. We have a variety of successful digital platforms as well.
The Aspen Strategy Group first launched the Brent Scowcroft Award Fellowship program in 2003 in recognition of our founding co-chairman Lieutenant General Brent Scowcroft, who established the ASG with Joseph Nye and William Perry in 1984. In 2025, the Scowcroft Fellowship was renamed the Scowcroft-Nye Fellowship as a tribute to Joseph S. Nye, Jr. and his forty years of leadership as our co-founder, director, and then co-chair.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Scowcroft-Nye Fellowship is a full-time, temporary opportunity for young leaders to join the Aspen Strategy Group (ASG) team. Meant as a stepping-stone to launch a career in national security and foreign policy, the fellowship lets young professionals experience first-hand how today’s preeminent politicians, leaders, and thinkers set aside differences and exchange ideas for open and cooperative dialogue. Scowcroft-Nye fellows typically join the ASG team for a period of six months, during which time they are encouraged to build knowledge in the field while developing the practical skills required to convene dialogues and communicate effectively with national security and foreign policy leaders.
This fellowship is set in a collaborative, small-team, and fast-paced environment. Scowcroft-Nye Fellows work and contribute to projects across all three pillars of our work: the Aspen Strategy Group, the Aspen Security Forum, and the Rising Leaders Program. As the ASG team prepares for each meeting and program, we entrust our fellows with a high level of responsibility. Therefore, we seek candidates with the ability to work both efficiently as part of a team and independently to ensure the success of the ASG’s various activities.
This position reports directly to the Aspen Strategy Group Fellow. The salary for this position is $24/hr. Our team is in Washington, DC and currently working in a hybrid fashion. The selected candidate will need to be in the Washington, DC area and able to be in person for the full term of their fellowship.
The Fellowship Term will begin Late March/Early April 2025 and conclude October 2025. Please note that the fellowship term is six months, with the possibility of an extension up to twelve months.
Important: The next fellow must be able to start by late March or early April. If you are graduating in May 2025, please wait to apply for the next fellowship opening.
