Job Description

This position is primarily based at the Hesburgh Library but will involve cross-training to support various other campus monitor locations. As a Security Monitor, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of guests, faculty, staff, students, and University assets across multiple venues, including the Snite Museum, Raclin Murphy Museum of Art, Basilica, Hesburgh Library, Entrance Gates, and Main Building.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Security and Safety: Observe, protect, patrol, and enforce rules and regulations within your assigned venue to ensure the safety of all individuals and assets.
  • Access Control: Manage and monitor access points, controlling ingress and egress, and reporting any unusual circumstances.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations by following established guidelines, including activating or deactivating alarm systems as necessary.
  • Venue Management: Lock, unlock, and secure your assigned venue as directed.
  • Communication: Provide information and assistance to guests, faculty, staff, and students. This includes using radio communication, answering phones, and monitoring CCTV.
  • Documentation: Complete required paperwork accurately and attend all mandatory training sessions as scheduled.
  • Key Management: Control and manage keys as assigned.

Campus Entrances Specific Duties:

  • Vigilant Monitoring: Provide safety oversight while welcoming guests, faculty, staff, and students. Screen authorized vehicular traffic attempting to enter the main campus through the gate.
  • Customer Service: Assist visitors and University guests by providing directions and information with a high degree of customer service.
  • Campus Awareness: Stay informed about campus functions and activities to effectively answer questions from guests, faculty, staff, and students.

This Non-Exempt position and receives Full-Time Benefits from the University.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a role requiring decision-making.
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills needed.
  • Ability to patrol designated areas.
  • Availability to work on home football game Saturdays.
  • Availability to work on holidays.
  • Ability to tolerate limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals.
  • Must be able to spend significant time walking and standing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong customer service background is preferred.
